Magnet Program

Magnets consist of a series of interconnected courses that make up a program that leads directly to, or supports, a student's transition to a specific post-secondary destination (i.e. work, college, university, etc.). A Board Designated Magnet is a specialized program that meets the needs of a unique group of students. A magnet program supports:

improving student learning and learning opportunities;
offering a diversity of programs that address varied students needs;
promoting educational excellence, quality staff and partnerships;
assisting students to make the transition to post-secondary destinations;
increasing the opportunity to access unique programs; and
effectively utilizing resources including staff, facilities and finances.

Students are permitted to transfer to a school outside their school boundary to participate in a Board Designated Magnet program. Those students who choose to participate in Board Designated Magnet Programs in a school outside of their designated area home school boundary are responsible for providing their own transportation to the program site. Exceptions include students involved in the Fast Forward or English as a Second Language (ESL) programs who live more than 3.5 km from the nearest school offering the program.

Please explore the Board Designated Magnet Programs. A brief description of the program and contact information is available.
